Ndidi scores for Leicester City, Iwobi falls with Arsenal

Saturday’s result in the Premier League was not favourable for Nigerian players except for Isaac Success’ Watford who came from behind to beat Crystal Palace 1-2 at the Selhurst Park.

Though Success did not taste action for the first time in the Premier League this term, his teammates got the job done getting three points away from home.

In the early kickoff at the London Stadium, Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was preferred ahead of Mesut Ozil and though he tried his best, he couldn’t save the Gunners as they were beaten 1-0 by their London neighbours, West Ham.

Declan Rice’s maiden goal for West Ham in the 48th minute of the contest gave the Hammers all three points.

At the American Express Community Stadium, Mohamed Salah was the tormentor-in-chief against Brighton again and the recently crowned African Player of the Year scored the only goal that gave Liverpool a crucial 1-0 win.

While Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun featured in the reverse fixture against Liverpool, he watched proceedings from the bench this time around.

At the King Power Stadium, it was a disappointing afternoon for Leicester City after they lost 2-1 to Southampton.

At half time, the Saints were already 2-0 up thanks to goals from James Ward Prowse and Shane Long but Wilfred Ndidi pulled one back for the Foxes on 58 minutes.

The Nigeria midfielder played the full game while his compatriot, Kelechi Iheanacho was confined to bench for the entire duration of the game.

Saturday’s goal was the second of the season for Ndidi.

In the final game of the day at Stamford Bridge, Victor Moses was ‘expectedly’ missing in the Blues matchday squad for the game against Newcastle United.

It is expected that Moses will be making a move away from Chelsea in the days ahead.

Brighton & Hove Albion 0 – 1 Liverpool

Burnley 2 – 1 Fulham

Solskjaer offers Pogba Vice-Captaincy as Ashley Young becomes Captain

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will only offer Paul Pogba a vice-captaincy role at Manchester United next season, with the armband instead going to veteran Ashley Young.

It emerged on Tuesday that Solskjaer was prepared to give Pogba the captaincy in an effort to persuade the midfielder to snub interest from Real Madrid and commit to the Red Devils.

However, The Times now say that Pogba will in fact be offered a deputy role, with Young to take over from Antonio Valencia as the new United captain.

The 33-year-old is the most senior player at the club and has often worn the armband this past season, with previous skipper Antonio Valencia only making six league appearances.

But United are looking to sign a new, first-choice right-back this summer – Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been mooted – meaning Young will often not be on the pitch.

Solskjaer has therefore narrowed down the candidates to be United’s on-pitch captain when Young is not in the side to three names: Pogba, David de Gea and Chris Smalling.

Nevertheless, there is still a belief that being part of the leadership team at United will give Pogba pause to consider staying at Old Trafford.

Chelsea has been ordered to pay former boss Antonio Conte £9million in compensation.

Conte, who won the Premier League and FA Cup during his two years in west London, has been embroiled in a bitter divorce from the club.

The Italian was sacked last summer and engaged in a legal fight with the Blues, citing unfair dismissal.

Conte, who has held off taking another job during the past 12 months, wanted the final year of his contact paid in full.

Now, a three-person Premier League managers’ arbitration tribunal has sided with Conte in the bitter dispute.

However, if Chelsea refuse to accept the tribunal’s ruling, then the judgment can be challenged in the High Court.

Conor McGregor wants rematch if his fight with Floyd Mayweather & he says he will win

Conor McGregor has revealed he wants a rematch of his fight with Floyd Mayweather, saying he’s 100% confident he will defeat Floyd.

“I would like to rematch him under boxing rules, again,” Cornor said to Tony Robbins during a recent interview,  “and I believe I would win.”

“Actually, there I go again with that fake humbleness, I KNOW I WOULD WIN!” He affirmed.

Recall that Conor first fought Floyd back in August 2017, but Floyd beating on Conor so badly in the 10th round, the referee stopped the fight.

“When I went into the fight in the early rounds I was WHOOPING him in the early rounds,” Conor said, “I went back to my corner after the 1st round and I said, ‘This is easy!'”

However, Conor says Floyd switched up his style going from a “back-footed,” defensive approach to a more aggressive “Mexican style.”

Conor says the switch shows how talented Floyd is, but he says he can prepare better for that alternative style and crush Floyd in a rematch.
