Alimosho General Hospital marks World Kidney Day



Gambian First Lady in Nigeria, visits patients at Abuja Hospital


The Lagos State Government, through the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando joined the rest of the world on Thursday to mark the World Kidney Day with a free medical screening and awareness creation exercise as well as an enlightenment campaign on effective management of kidney related ailments.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Jane Bakare, a Nephrologist and Head, Department of Medicine at the Hospital, stated that kidney disease has become prevalent in our society and that it is an expensive ailment influenced by risk factors like Hypertension, Diabetes, HIV, Urinary Tract Infection and Obesity.

She said it has become necessary to intensify education of the populace about kidney-related diseases and how to prevent them, adding that Alimosho General Hospital has enlightened its members of staff for effective management of the condition.

“We do not want our staff to die silently, nor suffer health gruesome experiences. These processes are with a keen move to detect causative factors and identify a condition known as Proteinuria – a condition where there is the presence of excess proteins in the urine”, Bakare declared.

On his part, Dr. Babatunde Olanrewaju a Consultant with the facility, said most sufferers indulge in habits that aggravate their status inadvertently, noting that “Women use mercury contained soap or body cream without pre-knowledge of the adverse effects on their kidneys”.

He asserted that regular annual medical check-up will help identify genetic problems and proffer effective management of symptoms before deteriorating into kidney disease.

“A habit of self-medication or over the counter drugs purchase without doctor’s prescription should absolutely be avoided”, he advised.

The highlight of the event was the health screening process, medical consultation and counselling with over four hundred personnel in attendance.

Police arrest four notorious cultists in Anambra



Police arrest cemetery attendant with human skull

Four suspected cult members terrorising Anambra state have been arrested by the police.

The spokesman of the command, Haruna Mohammed, said that following intelligence report in Igbariam in Anambra East Local Government Area, the command’s Special Anti Cult unit (SPAC) arrested four of the suspects.

The suspected cultists are: Uyunwane Ikenna, 22; Mbam Onyeka, 21; Omaka Favor, 23 and Onyeka Osaegbu, 23 years. Exhibits allegedly found in their possession included a locally made single barrel pistol.

He said all the suspects have confessed to being members of Senior Vikings Confraternity Secret Cult ( SVC).

Gunmen kill two politicians in Bayelsa



Gunmen attack Akwa Ibom governor's former aide


Gunmen stormed Odeme Hotel and killed two policemen on guard.

The hotel is located at Alamesiagha road in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, owned by Senator Emmanuel Paulker, representing Bayelsa Central in the National Assembly.

Reports say the men, who came in commando style, shot sporadically before carting away two service rifle of the policemen.

A witness said that the shooting lasted for about 30 minutes.

The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat said he was working on a statement about the incident.

Army sets up Committee to Investigate allegations of Misconduct against Her Personnel during 2019 Elections

As a way of ensuring that Nigerian Army troops deployed for election security duties during the 2019 General Elections conducted themselves within laid down Rules of Engagement and the Code of Conduct, the NA has set up a 9-member investigative committee, headed by Maj Gen TA Gagariga with Brig Gen JM Ali, Brig Gen GO Adeshina,
Brig Gen MA Obari, Col AT Bitiyong, Col A Tanko and Col WA Bakare as members and Lt Col PAJ Ebuk as Secretary to investigate all allegations of misconduct against the NA during the just concluded general elections. The committee is to submit its report not later than 31st of March, 2019.

The committee, which has already commenced action, was inaugurated by the Chief of Administration (Army), Major General KAY Isiyaku on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS ) Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai and admonished to carry out their duties objectively, fairly and transparently in line with its Terms of Reference.

The committee’s Terms of Reference centered on thoroughly investigating the activities, actions and/or inactions of NA Personnel in all the States that alleged one infraction/wrong doing or the other.

The Committee is also to collate and thoroughly analyze all reports to determine the veracity of the allegations including the alleged assassination attempt on Rivers State Governor and the circumstances that led to the shooting to death of Lt Kurmi as well as that leading to serious injuries to an officer and some soldiers in the State.

The Committee is further mandated to visit all States where issues have been raised about the conduct of NA during and after the elections and also interact with Civil Society Organizations, sister security agencies and State Governors with claims against the Army.

It would be recalled that the COAS, Lt Gen TY Buratai has on many fora, consistently (both in words and actions), soundly indicated that, under his watch, NA personnel must remain apolitical, respect human rights and abide by the rule of law in all its official engagements within or outside Nigeria and in or out of conflict situation. NA troops were deployed for the elections under Operation SAFE CONDUCT that was set up to provide support to the NP and other security agencies to ensure hitch free and successful elections in the country.

The Chairman of the committee, Major General TA Gagariga has assured the COAS and all Nigerians of the commitee’s commitment, resolve and determination to objectively and professionally address the major issues as contained in the Committee’s Terms of Reference.
