It is no longer news that Nigerian investigative journalist, David Hundeyin was detained at Harare Airport, Zimbabwe on Wednesday, while on transit to another undisclosed country, the news now is that he has regained his freedom after over 11 hours.

Hundeyin took to his Twitter account to lament how he was locked inside a smelly, small room immediately he landed in Zimbabwe.

He said he was detained in the room for over 10 hours, before he was allowed to use the toilet and assured he won’t miss his flight.

According to Hundeyin he was told that despite using the travel document of a country with a visa-free relationship, his nationality is still Nigerian, and thus, he needs a visa.

Subsequently, he was processed for removal from their country, and was locked in a tiny room.

However, while giving an update, Hundeyin revealed he has been escorted to the boarding gate for his follow-up flight.

“Being escorted to the boarding gate for my flight now.” He wrote.

In an another update on early hours of Thursday, Hundeyin disclosed that he has landed at his secondary destination country, and thanked everyone for their support.

“Landed. Safe and well. I was untouched and unharmed. Battery is nearly dead. Will update when I reach my secondary destination.

Thanks for the immense pressure and support.” He said.
